Best coffee in Newtown, consistent and delicious every time. Tasty bacon and egg burgers on the breakfast menu that you can have with an array of delightful condiments and sauces. Also very good if you get in before nine to have a special breakfast menu of coffee and a friand/savory or sweet muffin or bacon and egg burger. can get very busy in the morning but the staff are very efficient and friendly. A newtown must!

Vargabar Espresso is located just off busy King Street in Newtown and is one of our favourites. Vargabar is named after the extraordinary life and pin up Artist Alberto Vargas and his work can be seen throughout. It opened in 2002, the owners converted an old second hand clothing store into this vibrant cafe.
Very friendly staff and consistently great coffee. It is perfect for the morning after a night out.

This is one of those tiny Newtown cafes that always gets it right. Looking at the breakky menu it is always impossible to choose and the coffee is solid too. The lunch offerings are generous and creative as well. It’s a tad more expensive than a lot of Newtown breakky holes and you may need to wait for a table (especially on Saturdays), but there’s a reason for that.

After a devastating break-up on Valentines day (yes, the irony) I stumbled upon Vargabar Espresso desperate for a coffee to clear my head. As a Melbournian, we usually see Sydney cafe’s at a standard half as good as to what we’re used to in Melbourne. Perhaps it was my broken heart, perhaps it was my exhaustion, but I found your latte the best I’ve ever experienced.
